Tariff mentions have increased market uncertainty, affecting economic data and raising concerns of a “growth scare”. With the S&P 500 down -10% from its recent high, and approaching oversold levels, there appears to be a low bar for positive surprises in the near term. However, as markets continue to deal with tariff uncertainty, we favor U.S. high-quality defensive sectors, alternatives, and high-income assets to navigate volatility. Future catalysts like Fed rate cuts, better-than-expected data and trade agreements could eventually help provide a more durable floor under equities.
